The US Ranks First in Global Giving

Conducted by CAFAmerica, which belongs to the UK based Charities Aid Foundation International Network (http://www.cafamerica.org/dnn/Home/tabid/149/Default.aspx), the United States ranks first in “Global Giving”, moving from fifth place in 2010. The survey examined three areas: (1) 65% of Americans made a cash gift, (2) 43 percent (two out of five polled) volunteered their time, and (3) 73% (three out of four) helped a stranger. While it’s heartening that America ranks first, there was a slightly less than 1%overall decline in charitable donations worldwide affecting millions of people around the globe.

The United States had a score of 60 while the average score of the survey was 31.6. Close behind the United States was Ireland (59), Australia (58), New Zealand (57) and the United Kingdom (57).
